Isaac Matus was born in Bogotá, Colombia on September 1994, the capital of a country with an enormous cultural richness. He grew up being surrounded of the culture and traditions of the eastern part of the country, land of Joropo (Colombo-Venezuelan music) because of his family's origins.

As a child he started to show interest in arts trough drawings and paintings. He started classical guitar lessons for about a year when he was 11and and then continued alone, playing mainly rock and pop. At the age of 12 he discovered Heavy Metal. He formed bands and even got to record an album with one of them at the age of 15. He was very passionate about Metal and it was almost his only interest, until he came to the Five Week Summer Performance Program at Berklee College of Music in 2010 and obtained a wider perspective towards music, and started to become more interested of other

He started taking music lessons at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, in Bogotá during his last two years of high school, where he also joined a traditional Colombian music ensemble. He discovered the beauty and the value of this music, and learned the basics of some of Colombia’s traditional instruments, mainly the Gaita, a very unique indigenous-originative wind instrument, which he continues to play today, being the only student in Berklee who does it, having performed in the BPC, student recitals, gigs in the Boston Area, and recording sessions. He started as a composition major at the same university for one semester, and then came to Berklee. Nowadays he sees music, and arts in general, as the most genuine and authentic way to express one’s feelings and communicate our deepest thoughts or concerns with each other, studying at Berklee he has found the most appropriate space to do so. Having the opportunity to study with great teachers like David Fiuczynski, Rebecca Cline, Joe Carrier, Jackson Schultz, David Doms, Jeff Baust, Omar Thomas, and many more. He has also been able to play with one of the most (if not the most) respected traditional artists from Colombia, Totó la Momposina, and her son Marco Vinicio Oyaga during their visit to Berklee on November 2015. He is close to graduate from Berklee with a dual major in Contemporary Writing & Production and Electronic Production & design and he aspires to work mainly in the field of Music Production, Post Production and Composition/Arranging.
